The VII Congress of Rural School Teachers, which brought together more than 150 teachers from schools located in rural areas from 69 regions of Russia, ended in Moscow on October 6, 2023. At the plenary session on the final day of the Congress the teachers met with Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Tatyana Vasilyeva to discuss the most pressing issues of rural school development and support for village teachers.

The Congress took place on October 5-6, 2023, at the Office of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation and the Analytical Center under the Government of the Russian Federation. The event was attended by winners, prize-winners and laureates of professional competitions and olympiads, representatives of public associations of village teachers and the All-Russian Trade Union of Education.

The participants discussed key issues of rural education development and the role of rural schools in the implementation of the project “School of the Ministry of Education of Russia”. Teachers from rural schools of the Republic of Belarus joined their Russian colleagues online to share their experience and propose further cooperation.

During the plenary session, the participants spoke on the topics common to all rural schools: certification and use of products grown on school plots; interaction with agricultural holdings; creation of a database of best practices of agro-schools (i.e., schools in which, along with general education, specialized professional subjects aimed at the activities of the agricultural and industrial complex are studied); development of a mentoring system and others.

The VII All-Russian Congress of Rural School Teachers was held on the initiative of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and organized by the Academy of the Ministry of Education of Russia with the support of the All-Russian Pedagogical Assembly, the All-Russian Trade Union of Education and the project “Rural Schools of the Russian Federation”. The event was held as part of the Big Teacher’s Week, which took place on October 2-8, 2023.

The Big Teacher’s Week became the key event of the Year of Teachers and Mentors proclaimed by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation. Due to the increased attention of the society to the issues of education and upbringing, the Big Teacher’s Week this year was held with an increased number of events and participants.

The events of the Big Teacher’s Week covered all regions of the country. The central federal events of the week were the final round of the All-Russian contest “Teacher of the Year of Russia”, the announcement of the winners of the All-Russian professional contests “Master of the Year”, “Teacher-Psychologist of Russia”, “Principal of the Year of Russia”, “Teacher-Speech Pathologist of Russia”, “Educate a Person”, “First Teacher”, as well as the Forum for Classroom Teachers in Moscow, the plenary session of the Congress of Rural School Teachers and the meeting of public opinion leaders from teacher training universities.
